EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

My teaching philosophy centers around my belief in the power of community. To me, that means celebrating individuality, valuing relationships, and creating positive learning experiences. Staff and students come to schools with a variety of talents and skills. They have unique personalities and perspectives that, through collaboration, help to create a more holistic understanding of the self, others, and knowledge. It is the coming together of these individuals, the relationships they form, that gives everyone involved a deeper understanding.  Seeing challenges as opportunities is part of a positive learning experience, as is celebrating our failures as much as our successes.

Technology as a communication tool can help in fostering relationships and communities, which in turn helps to foster collaboration and learning. It connects people who share similar passions and allows for the sharing of perspectives, therefore deepening understanding. It also provides an opportunity for multi-modal learning as well as an opportunity to demonstrate understanding in a variety of ways. It is a space for experiential learning that has previously not been accessible. When technology is meaningfully incorporated into education, it can transform learning.
